The Naval Justice School (NJS) is a United States Navy educational institution whose mission is to teach officers of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard the fundamentals of military justice, civil and administrative law, and procedure. All attorneys in the Judge Advocate General corps must not only be admitted to practice in a state or territory of the United States, but also undergo training either in that institution or in complementary institutions of the United States Army and the United States Air Force that enables them to serve as trial counsel or defense counsel before military tribunals. The Naval Justice School was founded in Port Hueneme, California in 1946 and moved to Newport, Rhode Island in 1950. It has additional locations in Norfolk, Virginia and San Diego, California and a branch office in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1990, the institution also began operating in the United States. Civilians and representatives of foreign governments in human rights legislation. [1].
