Penn Carey Law, is an institution of the Ivy League, it dates back to a series of lectures given in 1790 by James Wilson, signatory of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and its Constitution. Today, he continues to lead the world of legal education with world-class professors who are both celebrity academics and dedicated teachers. Penn Carey Law`s unique culture of collegiality allows students to feel welcome and supported, encourages them to take risks, and maximizes their academic, professional, and personal experience. Its small size (about 750 JD students and 115 LLM students) facilitates close relationships between faculty and students, as well as between JD and LLM students. In addition to LLM, Penn Carey Law also offers ML, LCDC and SJD programs. Penn Carey Law Professors differ in the depth and breadth of their intellectual interests, the quality of their science, and their excellence in teaching. About 70% of permanent faculty members have graduate degrees in addition to the JD, and many have secondary appointments or affiliation with another school at the university. Research institutes, centres and programmes foster innovation and attract leading academics and practitioners from around the world to address critical legal issues and issues affecting society in areas such as economics, environment, international and comparative studies, health, intellectual property, regulation and technology. In addition, Penn offers joint JD/PhD degrees in American legal history, philosophy, and psychology.
